The Greenacre Bicycle Rally (North Finchley) is looking for Morris (scratch or Side) for an event on 15 June 2008 centred at the Art Depot, 5 Nether Street, North Finchley, London, N12 0GA (near the Tally Ho pub) assembling at 11am for a noon departure, as part of National Bike week and London Sustainability Weeks (www.lovelondon.org.uk)

Participants will try to complete as many laps of the 3 mile circuit as they can. The half way pit stop is at Friary Park, Friern Barnet Lane, where dancing could be done, and where the grand finale will be at around 4pm.

The particular interest in Morris is because the Council has said “Of course, you can’t have any music because you don’t have a Licence!” We feel however that fit Morris Men may feel they have plenty in common with the causes.

I know they are not a federation side but they are an important part of our tradition.

The 3 Bampton sides danced around the village on the spring bank holiday, some got wetter than others. There was a lot of dancing inside pubs (very useful having a tradition of doing a lot of jigs) and the village hall although the crafts people were getting a bit worried as the floor bounced up and down and started shaking goods off their stalls.

Eventually the rain stopped and people could get around the various sites without any danger of drowning. It is amazing that the dancers can turn up in a cul de sac on a housing estate and get a bigger audience than most sides get at their dance outs at specially selected pubs. And they get the beer!

As someone said in the morning ” you can tell this is a tradition, we wouldn’t be getting soaking wet if it wasn’t”

The visiting sides in the evening were Chipping Camden, Abingdon, Adderbury, Dartington and Ikneild Way
